The organization:
*** Connects leaders to ideas, services, and networks that can aid young people, even in the face of limited resources.
*** Helps leaders improve & align policies, plan & partner for impact, and strengthen programs & practices across institutions and systems affecting young people.
*** Clearly defines and lives its commitment and focus on dismantling structural racism in youth-serving systems.
Seeking key leader and strategic advisor to oversee a specific topical unit (Early Learning) of a non-profit's youth policy efforts. Requires keen strategist and skilled tactician with a deep commitment to racial and social equity and expertise in advancing state youth policies.
Shall provide oversight and direction to high-profile and strategic initiatives that maintain organization's position as a leader in the youth policy field. Concurrently, the VP will roll up sleeves and handle a wide range of day-to-day activities that support staff, leaders, and the organization to thrive.
Activities:
*** Advancing policy agenda to ensure all young people are ready for college, work, and life, leading three core functions: policy development and alignment; advocacy; and coalition-building.
*** Support existing youth development policy coalition.
*** Oversee unit's project management, ensuring all deliverables are completed on time and with the highest levels of quality and stakeholder satisfaction.
*** Lead a committed team to maximize unit performance and produce results aligned with the organization's strategy and impact metrics.
*** Develop unit and staff goals and performance expectations aligned with organization's strategic plan, providing guidance and conducting regular performance evaluations.
*** Apply a continuous improvement framework, develop strategies to support a collaborative culture, shared accountability, and efficiency.
Requirements:
*** Entrepreneurial self-starter. A "doer" with doggedness, determination and commitment to reach goals and a strong bias toward action. Always find a way to make it happen.
*** Driven to successful outcomes while composed and positive in challenging situations.
*** Communicate in writing and verbally clearly, succinctly, and in a timely manner.
*** Capable of engaging an audience and achieving the desired effect in a variety of formal and informal presentation settings.
*** History of getting results efficiently through others.
*** Able to clearly communicate stance on issues, even when unpopular.
*** Track record creating breakthrough strategies and plans that demonstrated success defined by metrics.
*** Influential negotiator who persuades others by building coalitions or alliances among diverse groups and effectively adapts influence strategies depending upon the situation. Skillful at removing barriers that get in the way of effective collaboration among groups.
*** Inspires commitment to a compelling vision and shared values.
*** College degree in related field, such as public policy. political science, law, etc.
*** 5+ years' experience in leading youth policy efforts in education, workforce development, youth-serving systems, juvenile justice, child welfare, etc. inside government or advocacy organizations.
*** Success in securing annual grants and contracts in the range of $200,000 - $1,000,000 involving policy and advocacy.
