Lead implementation of state-level policy agenda, including designing multi-faceted strategies to ensure timely, effective, and equitable rollout of Policy Initiatives within the organization's policy platform.
Interact with community including organizers, thought leaders, influencers, agency heads, and elected officials.
Activities
Maintain current knowledge of the political and coalition landscape with emerging Children & Family related legislative opportunities for premier policy advocacy organization and develop and implementation strategies.
Steer introduction and passage of legislation within the organization's policy framework.
Focus on newly enacted state laws which in which the organization has a leading interest to ensure timely implementation.
Navigate process for drafting regulations and rules related to newly passed legislation. Steer related initiatives as necessary.
Collaborate with others to ensure organization's stakeholders and allies are properly integrated into policy initiatives.
Sustain partnerships and collaborations with state legislators, agency heads, and other leaders to ensure timely, effective, and equitable passage or implementation of newly enacted laws of organizations signature legislation.
Qualifications
5 + years direct experience in policy advocacy at the city, state or national level.
Experience tracking legislation and analyzing bills for their immediate and long-term impact.
Knowledge of state regulations or Rulemaking, including state processes for drafting, influencing, and adopting regulations.
Successful track record managing multiple projects simultaneously, including bringing projects or initiatives to scale.
Ability to independently conduct high-quality analysis of laws and legislation and author easy to understand explanations and promotion.
Capacity to easily work directly with diverse communities including organizers, local leaders, grassroots influencers, students, parents, or teachers across differences of race and political party.
Talent to speak diplomatically on sensitive issues with individuals who may not share organization's sense of urgency nor fully support organization's proposed solutions.
Highly visible leadership role within an advocacy leader providing direct interaction with organization's CEO, executive board and stakeholder leadership.
