Optical Manufacturing Engineer - Edison, NJ

Description
Develop processes and metrology for manufacturing of fiber optic network devices -- highly compact and dense opto-mechanical laser processing assemblies.

*** From R&D and Product Development Engineering specifications, drawings and other supporting documents work closely with engineering and manufacturing team to develop manufacturing processes, pilot, document and transfer to contract manufacturers.

*** Investigate and initiate corrective action to manufacturing problems arising in the manufacture of one or more of the following: optical components, parts and materials, assembly of optical, mechanical, electrical, electronic or electromechanical units, assemblies, subsystems and systems.

*** Act as technical liaison between production planning and engineering personnel.

*** Apply experience with manufacturing processes including Six Sigma, lean manufacturing, and statistical process control (SPC)

Requirements:

*** BS, MS or PhD in Engineering, Physics or Optics

*** 3+ years industrial experience in optics and manufacturing

*** 3+ years of assembly, test, industrial experience with optical test equipment in addition to experience in two or more of the following areas is required: fiber lasers, solid-state lasers, semiconductor lasers, multiplexors, laser-based optical subsystems, laser stabilization, high-power lasers, and optical engineering. Optical assembly and laser manufacturing experience is required.

*** Thorough knowledge of optical and electrical test equipment.

*** Hands-on ability with data acquisition software (LabVIEW), data analysis software (MATLAB, IGOR Pro, Excel)

*** Experience with optical design and raytracing software such as Zemax
