Legislative Director - JD - Policy Advocacy - Trenton, NJ
Attorney Legislative Director State Policy Manager Director of Policy & Advocacy Manager Vice President Unit Supervisor Child Advocacy Early Learning, Positive Youth Development & Juvenile Justice, Child Welfare - Abuse & Neglect, Health, Economics, Law, Social Networking Safety & Effects, Mental Health, Education, Racial Equity, Family Support _ .
Direct policy and legislative engagement strategies for well-funded nonprofit nonpartisan "action tank", committed to the goal that all children are prepared for successful college, work, and life.
*** Develop strategic plans to advance legislation that improves the lives of children and families and impede legislation that would restrict or hurt the communities the organization serves.
*** Shape grassroots and direct lobbying work.
*** Engage with key stakeholders such as coalition partners, policymakers, legislators, regulators, and constituents and maintaining strategic relationships .
*** Focus policy initiatives on the communities disproportionately impacted by city, state and national policies.
*** Develop a short-term and long-term policy agenda for the subject area.
*** Work closely with policymakers and stakeholders on crafting policy language that effects subject area.
*** Lead specific legislative subject area teams in identifying policy priorities.
*** Develop policy analysis including impact and implementation plans.
*** Manage contract lobbyist and maintain registration as a lobbyist in New Jersey and ensure compliance with state ethics laws.
*** Testify on behalf of the organization.
*** Maintain organizational cognizance of the role of race, income, age, gender identity, immigration status, and other identities in shaping Subject Area.
QUALIFICATIONS:
*** JD Degree
*** Direct experience leading legislative and policy programs.
*** Experience managing projects and programs.
*** Effective interpersonal communication skills, rapport-building, and emotional intelligence.
*** Passionate about political advocacy and children and families area mission.
*** Effective written communicator.
*** Commitment to equity, knowledge of diverse groups, and sensitivity and appreciation to cultural differences.
*** Comfort and poise as a public speaker.
